What to watch this Valentine's Day? Some Digital Love

Image
We all love watching movies that are soppy and cute, packed with tears and romance. The hopeless romantic in us wants that perfect cliché ending. The cynic in me wants to also resort to this love in the air infectious energy surrounds the second month of the year. So I ended up watching those lovey-dovey movies again; while I watch these, I decided to do this public service and share my list of movies that I am to watch/watched/watching this month. Pretty woman Yeah yeah! We have watched it a million times, but every time Vivian falls in love with Edward, it leaves the fluttering feels in your stomach. It sure is the best love fable of the love fables.   In a very fairytale-like setting, Edwards meets Vivian (an escort) on a roadside asking for direction and was intrigued by her knowledge of cars. He then hires her for the day (just for the company)  that kept stretching for the next day and then more, until his stay in the city. Edward takes Vivian through his daily meetings a

Let them all talk

Really, let them!   When you see Meryl Streep on the cover of the movie, you don’t think twice, and after her performance in Big Little Lies , I was craving that cinematic magic. Netflix also gets that hence suggest me all her movies; what would we do without the clever algorithm? Anywho, the movie has a decent cast, Meryl Streep , as mentioned many times already, Candice Bergen of Miss Congeniality fame, and Brad Pitt’s favorite Dianne Wiest . These happen to be Alice Hughes (Ms. Streep), old friends, reconnecting after years. The cast also includes Lucas Hedges , who played as a supporting nephew, Tyler, and Gemma Chan , as Karen, her new agent. So the story revolves around a renowned New York-based author Alice, who has to go and collect her British Award. Now, Alice has some reservations against flying, so her over ambitious agent suggests to sail. Her old friends Roberta (Bergen) and Susan (Wiest) had their own sets of thoughts running in heads for this sudden invit

Julie & Julia

365 days, 524 recipes  – Bon Appetite!! It is tough to find a movie these days that come up to expectation (no, I am not “very” picky, maybe…); sister understand my pain and recommended to watch Julie & Julia. After downloading three more options, just in case, we settled for a movie night with hopes and expectations.   So the movie is about Julia Child and Julie Powell, both come from different times. Julia Child, played by ever, so genius and chameleon-like actor, Meryl Streep and Amy Adams plays Julie Powell, a struggling secretary at public office, living above a pizza shop in Queens, NewYork. The movie keeps switching between two eras, 1960 and 2002 and narrates the struggles of both the women. Nora Ephron has given us many wonderful movies, and sadly this was the last before her demise. She brings two real-life stories, "My Life In France" written by Julia Child, and "My Year of Cooking Dangerously" by Julie Powell. While Julia is bored

The Killing of a Sacred Deer

The opening scene of the movie was open-heart surgery, and that was enough for a person like me who feel deprived due to the season break of Grey’s Anatomy.   The story of the movie revolves around the family of four, Dr. Steven (Colin Farrell), a cardiothoracic surgeon, Anna (Nicole Kidman), an ophthalmologist, and two children, Kim and Bob. While they are all happy merry family, and everything looks fine from the exterior, the cracks start showing very soon. For me, a peculiar and incomprehensible relation was a teenage boy Martin, meeting Dr. Steven, and the equation between two was particularly disturbing, W eird fetish of Doctor, thank God, not with the boy. Soon it was disclosed he was his patient and son of the patient who died during the procedure with Dr. Steven. Initially, it looked like guilt, when Steven gave him expensive watch and his time on and off-work, while the family was completely unaware. Later he was brought at home, and soon he became the love i

The Assistant

The movie has a high rating on rotten tomatoes, and that only often is a reason I choose to watch a movie. I loved the background score by Tamar Kali , subtly taking over the scenes shift and move as the movie proceeds.   This movie speaks very eloquently about the sexual harassment at the workplace and resonates significantly with the #MeToo movement.   The movie features Ozark star, Julia Garner, who finished her degree and was a high achiever. The movie revolves around an assistant of a Hollywood movie production company, eerie as it may sound; the boss is shown passing, talking, coming/going, and shouting.   But, in the whole movie, his face is never shown, while Jane is seen scrubbing his sofas, picking up dishes and foods. Doing all irrelevant and belittling errands, which a janitor should be doing, but a high achiever college graduate is seen doing every day.   She is seen coming in very early, while there are no signs of sunrise yet and leave building th

Money Heist

Why is everyone watching Money Heist, La Casa De Papel  Season 1 & 2: Season Four of Money Heist, sadly or luckily, don't know the right word, happened when we were forced to be home for quarantine. It sure was the perfect timing, not intentionally meant but turned out a lot of us were so bored and seeing so much of Money Heist shared on social media, I too, succumbed under peer pressure and binge-watched all four seasons. Well, I wouldn't say it was an unpleasant watch, but I just don't understand how Professor can have such a calculated plan, every single time! I chose to watch it when I read it fell under the genre of action, crime & mystery. The word 'action' got my attention as it works for my husband and me. (Husband only watches movies and series in which 100 things happen in 5 minutes). So we resorted to watching it after carefully downloading season 1 & 2 (since we may not be able to stand the suspense), but it turns
